How it all started

"..now Atoy Co is  being guarded by number seven  Robert Jaworski..."pbajawoco.jpg

..well, we're not exactly Robert Jaworski - MR. Basketball himself, The BIG "J", but we pretty much have the same interest ....BASKETBALL!!! yep, that's what these website is all about...and more of course.
It all started in the mid-70's right here in Ottawa, when a bunch of basketball afficionados got together and formed a 'League of their own'..Mr. Pepe Carbon of Montreal (formerly of Ottawa) and Mr. Willie Juane Sr. was one of them...we call him 'The Commish" - the cities were - Montreal,Hamilton,Toronto and Windsor...Ottawa wasn't really a big part of the newly formed league (PIBNA), since our player pool at the time was rather scarce and yet we try and form a team in order to participate. Now, around the early 80's, Fil-Can of Ottawa was formed. The members participated on several local tournaments and house-leagues. In around 1988 - 89, Mr. Juane then decided that the association is just about ready to join the 10 year old PIBNA (Philippine Inter-City Basketball of North America) in 1989. He gathered his 'kaibigans' around and committed most of his time on building and making of what PBA of Ottawa is now.
We have seen a tremendous growth in our membership and participation from our community - from a 2 -team association to six, consisting of the following divisions: 13 yr.olds,15 yr.old and under, 17 year olds, 5'10 division, The Open division and of course The Masters'(35 and up) and Womens' team.

We are a non-profit organization that have several objectives but one of it - is of course to provide guidance and promote sportsmanship amongst the youth of the Filipino-Canadians here in Metro-Ottawa (see attached by-laws).
We basically rely on the hard work and (donated) time by our members and volunteers, without them (specially the volunteers), we probably would have folded a long time ago. But we're here to stay and hope to keep on growing and be successful in every way and that can only be accomplished with your never-ending support.

One of our goals are....

To promote sportmanship and camariderie among our youths...develop their basketball skills
