It all started in the mid-70's right here in Ottawa, when a bunch of basketball afficionados got together and formed a 'League of their own'.  Mr. Pepe Carbon of Montreal (formerly of Ottawa) and Mr. Willie Juane Sr. was one of them.  We call him, 'The Commish" - the cities were - Montreal,Hamilton,Toronto and Windsor...Ottawa wasn't really a big part of the newly formed league (PIBNA), since our player pool at the time was rather scarce.

Around the early 80's, Fil-Can of Ottawa was formed. The members participated in several local tournaments and house-leagues. Around 1988 - 89, Mr. Juane then decided the association was ready to join the 10 year old PIBNA (Philippine Inter-City Basketball of North America). He gathered his 'kaibigans' and committed most of his time towards building PBA Ottawa to what it is now.

We have seen a tremendous growth in our membership and participation from our community.  What started as 2 teams has grown to the following divisions: 13U, 15U, 17U, 5'10, Open, 35+, 45+ and Womens' team.

We are a non-profit organization with several objectives, the main one being to provide guidance and promote sportsmanship amongst the youth of the Filipino-Canadians here in Metro-Ottawa (see attached by-laws). We rely on hard work and (donated) time by our members and volunteers, without them (specially the volunteers), we probably would have folded a long time ago. But we're here to stay and hope to keep on growing and be successful in every way and that can only be accomplished with your never-ending support.

'Sunday - July 25, 2004' was a sad day for PBA Ottawa....

This day will be remembered as one of the saddest day in the history of Philippine Basketball Association of Ottawa. One of the founders of  PBA Ottawa (Formerly Fil-Can Ottawa) suddenly passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.

His name is Raoul Rodriguez - born May 2, 1963 married with 2 wonderful kids.
